Captrad’s modular handrail system combines 50 mm pultruded GRP tube in 5 m lengths with matching moulded fittings. The fittings are secured through the tube, with both bolt head and nut recessed into the fitting to avoid exposed edges along the finished handrail.
The system has been independently tested by Lancaster University’s Engineering Department. Existing Captrad product information confirms the general-duty requirements of BS 4592-0:2006+A1:2012 and recommends a maximum 1.25 m span between stanchion centres.

Service life & maintenance
The existing information gives a design life of more than 20 years in normal industrial environments. Colour can fade over time without affecting structural performance, and minor damage can be repaired.
Cutting & drilling
Diamond-tipped saw blades are recommended for tube and toe plate, while drilling can be completed with conventional HSS drills. Use suitable dust extraction and personal protective equipment.
Chemical resistance
The system is resistant to a broad range of acids, alkalis, fresh and saltwater, ethylene glycol, petrol and fuel oils. It is not recommended for extended exposure to concentrated acids or alkalis.
Technical construction
Tube and toe plate are pultruded for a high strength-to-weight ratio, while fittings are hot-pressed in metal tools for consistent dimensions and a smooth finish.
Materials & finish
The system uses isophthalic polyester resin, E-glass reinforcement and a polyester surface veil. Safety yellow is standard, with a more limited steel-grey range; other colours can be discussed.
