Captrad – Manufacturing, Stocking and Delivering GRP Products
Our commitment to quality and innovation ensures that all GRP Composite Trench Covers offer unmatched reliability and longevity. Our advanced resin transfer moulding (RTM) process not only enhances the cover’s strength but also ensures its resistance to harsh environmental conditions, making it ideal for a variety of applications.
The F900 load-rated trench cover, in particular, stands out for its ability to withstand extreme loads while maintaining its lightweight characteristics, offering a perfect blend of safety and performance. This makes it an excellent choice for high-traffic areas where durability and safety cannot be compromised.
In addition to their robust construction, our trench covers are designed with ease of installation in mind. The lightweight nature of GRP composites means they can be easily handled and installed without the need for heavy machinery, reducing installation time and cost.
Captrad’s focus on continuous improvement and adherence to the ISO 9001:2015 quality assurance standards means that you can trust our trench covers to meet your specific requirements, providing peace of mind that the product will perform as expected over the long term. Choose Captrad for trench covers that are engineered for excellence and designed to meet the demands of today’s infrastructure challenges.
As well as GRP Composite Trench Covers, Captrad also supplies a wide range of GRP Manhole Covers, offering an excellent strength to weight ratio, unparalleled lightness and excellent safety performance.
Designed as a ‘fit-and-forget’ solution, our GRP composite trench covers are naturally durable, require no maintenance, and possess exceptional strength.
All of our trench covers are subjected to independent testing to ensure they comply with the load specifications detailed in BS EN 124. They not only meet but often surpass the relevant class conditions for permanent set and ultimate bearing load, as demonstrated in our reports. Furthermore, trench covers supplied for use in the United States have been independently evaluated to confirm they adhere to the standards established by AASHTO (American Association of State Highway & Transportation Officials).
Captrad is proud to maintain accreditation to ISO quality standard 9001:2015. Our dedication to product excellence allows us to offer an extensive range of high-strength modular and custom-made trench covers, boasting the best strength-to-weight ratio available in the market today. The material performance of our covers complies with EN 124:1994/PAS26:1998 standards. Additionally, our main range of covers comes with BSI Kitemark approval.
The risk of potential electrostatic discharges can be effectively mitigated by utilizing the “fully conductive” Captrad Trench Cover. This innovative cover incorporates a metallised fibre during the moulding process, ensuring electrical continuity across its entire surface. It surpasses the surface resistivity standards outlined in PAS26, which specifies a maximum value of 1 KΩ/cm². Remarkably, the Captrad cover achieves a resistivity of just 0.0144 KΩ/cm².
In addition to its lightweight nature—usually one-third the weight of a comparable cover made from metal or concrete—the Captrad ergonomically designed lifting aid also reduces the risk of back injuries and crushed fingers.
One of the main reasons to choose a composite cover is its natural resistance to corrosion, making it an excellent option for applications involving water, wastewater, or corrosive liquids. Additionally, these covers are perfect for protecting underground infrastructure from harmful external compounds, including salt.
The thermal gradient characteristics of a composite steam cover greatly minimize heat transfer from the steam vault to the cover’s surface. Generally, the surface temperature of a composite cover remains only marginally above ambient temperature, even when exposed to intense heat on the underside. Notably, high-quality Captrad steam covers retain their cool-to-touch features and can support vehicular loads, even when subjected to a test temperature of 400°F.
Independent wet and dry tests conducted by Devon CC Materials Laboratory revealed that Captrad trench covers, even when wet, possess anti-slip properties that significantly surpass health and safety advisory standards.
The thermal gradient characteristics of a composite steam cover greatly diminish heat transfer from a steam vault to the cover’s surface. Generally, the surface temperature of a composite cover remains only marginally above the ambient temperature, even when exposed to very high temperatures on the underside. In fact, top-quality Captrad steam covers preserve their cool-to-the-touch attributes and can support vehicular loads, even when tested at temperatures reaching 400°F.
With a Captrad Composite Trench Cover, there is no risk of theft since composites hold no resale value in the scrap market. This means you won’t have to worry about a hazardous, uncovered hole in the ground.
Enhanced security options include locks and restraining bolts. The standard model is operated using an Allen key, while the bespoke Tri Head requires a specialized Tri Key for operation.
Captrad GRP Composite Trench Covers can be moulded in almost any colour or combination of colours. Since the pigment is mixed into the resin during the manufacturing process, there are no issues with colour scratching or fading over time. This allows for the inclusion of logos and enables color-coding to align with a facility’s branding, or even to designate specific underground services accessible through a particular cover.
This can be mounted on our specialized frame or your current rebate.
Covers can be tailored to fit various needs, including accommodating pipework entry, shallow depths with stepped cover profiles, steam and gas release vents, inspection ports, and a wide range of other specifications.
