Captrad – Manufacturing, Stocking and Delivering GRP Products

GRP Grating - Durable, Lightweight & Corrosion-Resistant Fibreglass Gratings

Installing GRP Grating is quicker and simpler compared to traditional steel alternatives, resulting in significant cost savings. Thanks to its lightweight fibreglass construction, GRP Grating reduces the need for heavy lifting equipment, streamlining installation on site. Additionally, its non-sparking properties eliminate fire risks associated with hot work processes. Requiring minimal maintenance, GRP Grating delivers outstanding durability, consistently outperforming steel grating in demanding environments.

GRP Grating – Lightweight, Durable Fibreglass Open Mesh Grating

Captrad manufactures an extensive range of GRP Grating (also known as Fibreglass Grating), including Moulded GRP Grating and Pultruded GRP Grating. These products provide efficient, durable, and cost-effective solutions for all GRP Flooring, walkways, and decking areas requiring long-term reliability in aggressive, corrosive, or chemically challenging environments.

Manufactured from high-quality glass-reinforced thermoset resins, Captrad’s GRP Grating is an ideal replacement for traditional steel and aluminium grating systems, especially in harsh or hazardous environments. Our fibreglass grating panels weigh approximately one-quarter of steel and two-thirds of aluminium, significantly simplifying installation and on-site handling.

Unlike traditional metal grating, our moulded and pultruded GRP grating can be easily cut on-site using simple hand tools, making it suitable for a wide range of installations. Its lightweight nature enables easy transportation and installation by personnel, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety standards and reducing the need for specialised equipment.

In addition to GRP Grating, Captrad also offers an extensive selection of GRP Structural Profiles, specifically designed to complement and support various fabricated structures. Our experienced team provides comprehensive design assistance and custom fabrication services, delivering fully finished GRP solutions tailored to meet your project’s exact specifications.

GRP Moulded Grating features load-bearing bars running in both directions, allowing it to maintain structural integrity without continuous side support. This versatility enables easy customisation and fabrication of grating panels, while still retaining their inherent strength. Our open mesh GRP flooring integrates seamlessly with the range of structural profiles we offer—see our Pultrusion section for more details.

Captrad Composites has the capability to supply GRP Grating globally, with distribution from the UK and Europe to the UAE, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, the Americas, and Australia.

Frequently Asked Questions About GRP Grating

GRP grating (Glass Reinforced Plastic grating), also known as FRP grating, is a lightweight, corrosion-resistant grating made from fiberglass and resin. It is commonly used in industrial, commercial, and outdoor environments where steel or timber would corrode or degrade.

GRP grating offers several advantages over steel, including corrosion resistance, lower weight, non-conductivity, high strength-to-weight ratio, minimal maintenance, and improved slip resistance. It is ideal for chemical plants, marine environments, and areas exposed to moisture.

Yes, GRP grating is highly suitable for outdoor use. It is UV-resistant, weatherproof, and does not rust, rot, or corrode, making it ideal for walkways, platforms, ramps, and drainage covers in external environments.

GRP grating is extremely strong for its weight. Depending on panel thickness and mesh size, it can support heavy pedestrian and light vehicle loads while remaining significantly lighter than steel. Load ratings can be specified to meet industry standards.

Yes, GRP grating is naturally slip resistant and can be manufactured with anti-slip surfaces such as grit, concave, or meniscus finishes. This makes it ideal for wet, oily, or hazardous environments where safety is critical.

No, GRP grating does not rust or corrode. It is chemically resistant to acids, alkalis, salts, and moisture, making it a preferred solution for wastewater treatment plants, chemical facilities, and coastal areas.

Common applications include industrial walkways, platforms, stair treads, drainage covers, marina decking, plant rooms, loading bays, food processing areas, and chemical plants.

Yes, GRP grating can be easily cut on site using standard tools such as diamond or carbide-tipped blades. Its lightweight nature also makes installation faster and safer compared to metal grating.

GRP grating can be manufactured with fire-retardant resins that meet specific fire performance standards. Fire resistance levels vary depending on the resin system used, so specifications should be checked for each project.

GRP grating has a long service life, often exceeding 20–30 years, even in harsh environments. Its durability and low maintenance requirements make it a cost-effective long-term solution.
